Panghalip na Paari: Halimbawa sa Pangungusap

Sentences in Filipino with panghalip na paari usually have one of the two following sentence structures:

  • Ang [object owned] ay [panghalip na paari].
  • [Panghalip na paari] ang [object owned].

Panghalip na paari halimbawa: amin (ours)

Panghalip na paari halimbawa sa pangungusap:

  • Ang puting pusa ay amin. (The white cat is ours.)
  • Amin ang puting pusa. (same meaning)

Panghalip na Paari o Panuring: What's the Difference?

There are two rules of thumb when it comes to panghalip na paari:

  • It should not be preceded by the word “sa”. Example:
    • sa amin ×
  • It should not be preceded or followed by a noun. Examples:
    • aming pusa × 
    • pusa namin × 

If there is a noun before or after the word showing ownership (ex., aming pusa or pusa namin) that word is no longer considered a panghalip na paari (possessive pronoun). Instead, it is considered a panuring. This is similar to the distinction, in English grammar, between a possessive pronoun and a possessive determiner
