Maria Montessori International School is a prestigious private school in Cebu with two campuses, one in Talamban (in Barangay San Jose) and the other in the Gonzales Compound on Gorordo Avenue, both in Cebu City. Often referred to simply as MMIS, they offer preschool, elementary, junior high school, and senior high school.

The four-level preschool program of MMIS utilizes the Montessori method of education, with a prepared environment where young kids can do hands-on “work” on Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Cultural, and Practical Life areas. This lasts from playgroup, nursery, and pre-kindergarten to kindergarten.

On the other hand, a more traditional approach based on the K-12 curriculum of the Department of Education is used at MMIS for the elementary (grades 1 to 6), junior high school (grades 7 to 10), and senior high school (grades 11 and 12) levels.

Can MMIS Tuition Fee Be Paid in Installments?

MMIS is one of the more expensive schools in Cebu (though certainly not the most expensive) with total yearly fees ranging from ₱59,000 to nearly ₱83,000.

Fortunately for parents who are watching their budget, it’s possible to pay the tuition and other fees on an installment basis. Parents who would prefer not to pay the fees all at once have the option to make payments on a semestral, trimestral, or monthly basis – that is:

  • Semestral – two separate payments
  • Trimestral – three separate payments
  • Monthly – eight separate payments

This is at no extra cost – meaning the total amount you pay if you choose to make payments monthly is the same total amount you would pay if you had chosen the semestral or trimestral payment scheme. However, if you pay annually, you are granted a discount.

One important exception to these payment schemes is when the student is still in the play group, nursery, or pre-kindergarten levels. During these three levels (the first three levels of preschool), the only other option aside from one-time full payment is the semestral payment option.

In the semestral payment scheme, the two payments are equal in amount, while in the trimestral and monthly payment schemes, the first payment is much bigger while the subsequent payments are smaller and equal in amount.

In short, parents have several choices when it comes to paying for the school fees at MMIS. Depending on our personal financial circumstances, we can choose semestral, trimestral, or monthly installments, or we can go for a full one-time payment. The advantage of choosing to pay the school fees all at once is that we can get a discount on the annual fee.
