The Cebu International School (CIS) is a private day and boarding school located in Cebu City that implements an international curriculum for:

  • Early years – early childhood education for children age 3 to 4 years old
  • Primary years – an inquiry-based program for children from kindergarten to Grade 5
  • Middle years – a program for students from Grade 6 to Grade 10
  • Diploma programme – a program (International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, or IB DP) that provides qualification for entry to and recognized by major universities all around the world

CIS is the only school in the Philippines that has been authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP).

Each class in the Early Years program has at most 14 students, while those classes in the Primary Years, Middle Years, and Diploma Programme levels have at most 20-24 students per class.

Previously located originally on Gorordo Avenue and then in Banilad, the Cebu International School is now located in Pit-os, Cebu City. Its 3.2-hectare campus houses its academic facilities as well as two gymnasiums, a full-sized grass field, and a swimming pool. In addition, CIS recently opened a 40-person Student Residence, a boarding facility for students in Grades 7 to 12 who are from out of town as well as those who wish to avoid the city traffic and minimize travel time to and from school. There is also a school bus that services key locations in the city, including the Talamban and Banilad areas, North Town Homes, Maria Luisa Estate Park, I.T. Park, and Cebu Business Park (Ayala).

The school year at CIS starts in early August and finishes in early June the following year. Transfers in the middle of the school year are possible under certain conditions.

The CIS School Fees

The following sections will lay out the tuition fee, development fee, and dollar fee of each year level at the Cebu International School.

The tuition fee is self-explanatory, while the development fee corresponds to the miscellaneous and various other fees in other schools.

The dollar fee is a fee paid in addition to the tuition and development fees. As the name suggests, it is a fee that is paid in US dollars. The school originally came up with this fee for them to be able to easily pay their USD-denominated expenses and avoid currency conversion costs. However, depending on the state of their dollar reserves, the school may, at their discretion, allow the dollar fee to be paid in Philippine pesos during certain school years. The exchange rate set by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas on the date of payment is used to determine the equivalent fee in Philippine pesos.

The other fees that are or may be charged by CIS upon enrollment or throughout the school year are as follows:

  • Reservation fee – ₱40,000 – This is usually paid in the month of March to guarantee the child a place at the school in the next school year. It is deductible from the tuition fees upon enrolment.
  • Entrance fee – This is charged to:
    • Early Years (EY) 1 to Kindergarten – new and returning students;
    • Grade 1 onwards – new students only.
  • Application fee – ₱5,000 – This is a nonrefundable fee charged to all applying new students.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) fee – This is charged to those who wish to sit the corresponding exams.
  • Homeroom fund, after-school activities, and educational travel fees are charged as and when needed.

The total fees stated for Grades 1 to 12 will only include the tuition fee, development fee, and the dollar fee converted to Philippine pesos based on the current exchange rate ($1 = ₱58.92), while the total fees for Early Years 1 to 3 and Kindergarten will also include the mandatory entrance fee.
