Quick Divisibility Rules

Divisibility by 2
A number is divisible by two if it is even — if the last digit is 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8.

Divisibility by 3

  • A number is divisible by three if you add all its digits and the sum is divisible by 3.
  • You can repeat this process if the sum of the digits has two or more digits. For example: 357 → 3 + 5 + 7 = 15 → 1 + 5 = 6 → divisible by 3

Divisibility by 4
A number is divisible by four if one-half of its last two digits is even.

Divisibility 5
A number is divisible by five if its last digit is 5 or 0.

Divisibility by 6
A number is divisible by six if it is divisible by 3 and it is even.

Divisibility by 9

  • A number is divisible by nine if you add all its digits and the sum is divisible by 9.
  • You can repeat this process if the sum of the digits has two or more digits. For example: 981 → 9 + 8 + 1 = 18 → 1 + 8 = 9 → divisible by 9

Divisibility by 10
A number is divisible by ten if its last digit is 0.

Divisibility by 12
A number is divisible by twelve if it is divisible by 3 and 4.

Divisibility by 15
A number is divisible by fifteen if it is divisible by 3 and 5.
