“Ako Si Takuri” is one example of a “kanta nga Binisaya” (Bisaya song) and is commonly used by students learning MTB Sinugboanong Bisaya. You can watch a video of it here. “Ako Si Takuri” is based on the English children’s song “I’m A Little Teapot” but it’s not a direct translation — one important difference is that “takuri” in Bisaya means kettle, not teapot. The lyrics are as follows:

Ako si Takuri, gamay ug dako
Kini ang kuptanan ug kini ang ipisan
Kon mobukal, mokulo-kulo
Punita ako ug ibubo

It’s an easy song to learn, and because it is the Bisaya version of an English song, the individual words might be easier to understand for children (or adults!) whose first language isn’t Bisaya.

The quiz below tackles the meanings of the words in the song and what part of speech they belong to. Give it a try!
