Montessori Filipino Worksheets: Patinig, Katinig, Pormasyon ng Pantig

In this quick Filipino lesson and free worksheets, kids can: (1) Complete words using different patinig (vowels) and katinig (consonants). (2) Identify the structure of a syllable (pantig): P, KP, PK, KPK, PKK, KKP, KKPK, KPKK, KKPKK, or KKPKKK.

These worksheets are about the most basic building blocks of the Filipino (Tagalog) language: vowels (mga patinig), consonants (mga katinig), and syllables (mga pantig). They also help build a child’s Filipino vocabulary by using the Filipino names for some of the most common things that can be seen in and around the home.

  • The first two worksheets are about using mga patinig and mga katinig to complete must-know Filipino words.
  • The next two worksheets focus on syllables and how they are formed (pormasyon ng mga pantig) using standard combinations of vowels and consonants.

Montessori Filipino Worksheet: Pormasyon ng Pantig - Worksheet 1

Pantig is the Filipino word for syllable. In the Filipino alphabet, syllables (mga pantig) follow standard structures composed of set combinations of vowels (patinig – P) and consonants (katinig – K). These standard combinations (pormasyon ng pantig, also referred to as kayarian ng pantig are:

  • P (patinig)
  • KP (katinig-patinig)
  • PK (patinig-katinig)
  • KPK (katinig-patinig-katinig)
  • PKK (patinig-katinig-katinig)
  • KKP (katinig-katinig-patinig)
  • KKPK (katinig-katinig-patinig-katinig)
  • KPKK (katinig-patinig-katinig-katinig)
  • KKPKK (katinig-katinig-patinig-katinig-katinig)
  • KKPKKK (katinig-katinig-patinig-katinig-katinig-katinig)

Montessori Filipino Worksheet: Pormasyon ng Pantig - Worksheet 2

This is another worksheet on pormasyon ng pantig or kayarian ng pantig. While the previous worksheet focused on composing a syllable with a vowel and/or consonant one by one, this worksheet is a bit more advanced and tries to get the child to identify the syllable structure as a whole.

This may also be a bit tricky: remember to review the letters in the Filipino alphabet and take particular note of the two consonants that are not in the English alphabet.
